Study on a Multi-Purpose Antenna for En-Route Surveillance

SSRs*1 have mainly been used for en-route surveillance so far. Recently, implementation of WAM*2 and plans to introduce ADS-B*3 have commenced, to improve the en-route surveillance performance. By integrating the output of these sensors, the advantages of each can be incorporated into the system.
With a view towards the further advancement of such a multi-sensor surveillance system, this research is working on a multi-purpose antenna. By employing electric scanning, the multi-purpose antenna is expected to meet the various requirements for transmission and reception. Also, it will cooperate with other receiving stations to provide various surveillance functions. Thus, improvement in both efficiency and performance is expected.
