Evaluation of a Tropospheric Correction Model for Airport Pseudolite

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the potential error involved in the application of the proposed equation for airport pseudolites (APLs). Data from flight tests conducted in the winter and summer in 2002 at Sendai airport were processed and analyzed. The APL tropospheric delay was calculated from GPS and APL carrier phase measurements by the double-difference technique. This delay was compared with the theoretical tropospheric delay derived from the correction model with the ground meteorological measurements. In order to assess the tropospheric model accuracy for long period, one-year radiosonde measurements obtained from the records of the Japan Meteorological Agency were processed. The difference between the tropospheric delay derived from radiosonde measurements and the one from the model with the ground meteorological measurements were compared over that one year period.

The results with respect to the flight test data analysis indicate that the tropospheric delay by the double-difference is good agreement with the theoretical delay. The results with respect to one-year radiosonde data analysis show that the difference between the tropospheric delay derived from radiosonde measurements and the one from theoretical model with the surface meteorological data at launch point doesnft exceed 50 cm at 10 NM from APL. These results indicate that the tropospheric correction model for the APL is satisfactory for Category II and III landing operations.
