Study on the Application of Multi-Surveillance Systems in the Vicinity of Airports

The technical performance requirements of ATS (Air Traffic Service) surveillance systems are defined at a technology-independent performance level to be met by a surveillance system to support ATS applications within a given airspace.

Many studies have been conducted on surveillance performance requirements for airspace in various environments, but some issues concerning the airport surface remain. For example, blocking radio waves and multipaths caused by structures like terminal buildings would see surveillance performance on the airport surface decline. Accordingly, there is a need to develop a means of evaluating the required surveillance system performance in such environments.

This study aims to develop a means of evaluating the required surveillance system performance and estimating the performance level of each ATS surveillance system. The results are expected to help as part of efforts to implement an ATS surveillance system that meets the required surveillance performance for future applications.
