History
April 1961 The Electronic Navigation Section was organized in the Aeronautics Division,Transport Technology Research Institute,which was attached to the Ministry of Transport.
April 1961 The Transport Technology Research Institute was reorganized and the Electronic Navigation Division of the Ship Research Institute was organized.
July 10, 1967 The Electronic Navigation Research Institute (ENRI) was established with the General Affairs Division, the Research Planning Office, the Electronic Navigation Division and the Satellite Navigation Division based on the Electronic Navigation Division,Ship Research Institute.
April 1970 The Electronic Navigation Division was divided into the Electronic Navigation Development Division and the Electronic Navigation Evaluation Division.
May 1972 The position of Deputy Director-General was established.
October 1976 The Iwanuma Branch was set up at Sendai Airport in Iwanuma City.
October 1978 The Aeronautical Facilities Division was established.
January 2001 The Ministry of Transport was reorganized into the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT), to which ENRI was attached.
April 1, 2001 ENRI was detached from MLIT, and organized as an Independent Administrative Institution under the supervision of MLIT. The Planning Office was established in the General Affairs Division.
April 2002 The Aeronautical Facilities Division, the Electronic Navigation Evaluation Division and the Satellite Navigation Division were renamed to the Aeronautical Systems Division, the ATC Systems Division and the Satellite Technology Division, respectively. Research section system was reorganized into larger research group system.
March 2004 Project Teams were organized for High-Accuracy Satellite Positioning Augmentation Technology and for Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System.
March 2005 A Project Team for Kanto Airspace Redesign was organized.
April 2006 The position of Director of Research Planning and Management was established. The Planning Division was established based on the Planning Office. Four Research Divisions were reorganized to three Research Departments: Air Traffic Management (ATM), Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) and Airborne Systems Technology (AST).
January 2007 Mission of the Project Team for Kanto Airspace Redesign was accomplished.
April 2007 Project Team for Flight Safety Assistance Technology was organized.
June 2009 Mission of the Project Team for Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System was accomplished.
March 2011 Mission of the Project Teams for High-Accuracy Satellite Positioning Augmentation Technology and for Flight Safety Assistance Technology were accomplished.
April 2012 The CNS Department and the AST Department were reorganized into the Navigation Systems (NAV) Department and the Surveillance and Communications (SC) Department.
April 2015 National Research and Development Agency was organized.
April 2016 Electronic Navigation Research Institute, National Institute of Maritime, Port and Aviation Technology was organized.
