Study on Improvements of SSR Mode S Systems

In Japan, SSR Mode S, a new secondary surveillance radar with enhanced surveillance and datalink capabilities, has been deployed since 2004. Under an environment where multiple SSR Mode S are in operation, SSR Mode S is able to survey and communicate with aircraft more reliably and efficiently by using ground station coordination functions.

ENRI is conducting research on ground station coordination techniques to realize highly reliable surveillance in areas where coverage overlaps and communication techniques to downlink parameters from aircraft in the air correctly and efficiently.
