The Electronic Navigation Research Institute(ENRI) was established
on 1 April 2001 as an Independent Administrative Institution. ENRI continues
the tradition and achievements of its predecessor, a national research institute,
which carried out the mission over the past thirty-three years and nine months.
Navigation is the technology that provides guidance to the moving vehicle(such
as Aircraft, ships and automobiles) in order to enable them to reach their destination
safely and efficiently. It is even used as a means to locate affected people
in case of emergency. At present , navigation is called “Electronic Navigation”
and is comprised of radio navigation, data processing and provision of information
for decision-making.
Electronic Navigation is indispensable for the safe and efficient transportation.
The objective of ENRI is to conduct studies, researches, development of procedures
and prototype systems, tests and evaluation on electronic navigation systems.
The newly formed ENRI is striving to provide higher quality research by introducing
a new style of research management, that is, operating autonomously and efficiently
, and transparent to taxpayers. That is the reason why independent administrative
institutions were established replacing their predecessor, national research institutes.
By applying new technologies on satellite and date. Communications, we are expanding
our research on navigation necessitated by social needs. A very important role
of ENRI is to support Bureaus of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport
in their project planning and implementation(such as the airport construction
project). We are also to contribute our research findings more to the International
Civil Aviation Organization(ICAO), other international organizations and academic
organizations. Further, we are conducting basic and cutting-edge researches to
acquire and accumulate the knowledge of basic technologies necessary for electronic
navigation.
ENRI is the only research institute on electronic navigation in Japan. We do our
best to be the leader of the technology in this field by appropriate research
target and its accomplishment as the Independent Administrative Institution. Our
activities are to meet the requirements of the current ear and support administrative
decision-making relative to the transportation policies of the Ministry. We appreciate
your support and interest in our activities. |
